5 Reasons to Spend Summer in the City

Common’s Best of Summer
The summer is just around the corner, and while some New Yorkers will escape the city, others know that these five boroughs have more than enough to do, see, and listen to. If you’re a music lover, you can find everything you want right in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and just beyond. It’s not too early to start planning. Here are our top five events of the summer:

1- Gov Ball (Randall’s Island)
The best way to kick off summer in NYC is to attend Governor’s Ball, a three day festival which usually takes place the weekend after Memorial Day. Gov Ball’s lineup rivals that of Coachella, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. You can purchase tickets for one, two or all three days here.

2- Summerstage (All NYC Parks)
Summerstage, presented by the CityParks Foundation, offers a huge variety of programming spread across the parks of all five boroughs. Performances range from professional theater like Shakespeare in the Park to the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival to the Philharmonic in the park and tons of other dance, musical and cultural events. You can attend ad hoc, or support the CityParks Foundation by becoming a member here.
