In partnership with LA-based Proper Development, this thoughtful home was custom-built with decorative modern fixtures and world-class architecture from the ground up just for coliving.

Proper Development, a real estate development company and design studio, merges technology and advanced construction techniques to create beautifully crafted residences at affordable prices. With deep roots in Los Angeles’ creative culture, the Proper Development team elevates its projects with an unrivaled level of artistry and sophistication. We’re so excited to bring this home to life together and to introduce Common’s community and design values into a brand new city.

Incredible Neighborhood

Melrose Avenue is a welcoming location for just about anyone. Featuring the Melrose Mural Project as well as Various Small Fires gallery, Melrose has quickly become the “museum of street art.” Foodies can find not one, but four Jonathan Gold List restaurants around the corner from Common Melrose, including Osteria Mozza, Chia Spacca, and Trois Mec. In addition, endless rows of fashion houses and indie shops make Melrose a hot place for stylish insiders.

Modern and Charming Design

During the design process, we collaborated with local residents so Common Melrose would add to and complement the neighborhood’s unique charm. As a result, the home’s architecture and scale both celebrate and modernize the beauty of its surroundings, drawing from the area’s rich Mediterranean and Spanish-inspired homes.

The home’s neat stucco walls, bold hardwood accents, and decorative cement tile invoke this design heritage, and the clean lines and archway details throughout were inspired by the works of the famed 20th-century architect Irving Gill.

Common Melrose was also designed to create a cozy atmosphere. The suites were designed with horizontal flow, functioning at a residential scale with homes situated side by side. Inside, the hardwood oak floors, floor-to-ceiling slider windows, and distinct features such as built-in seating nooks solidify the home’s custom and intimate atmosphere.

Intricate Details

Common Melrose features several architectural and aesthetic details intended to make living there convenient and comfortable.

The kitchen comes ready-for-use with luxury marble and Caesarstone countertops, in addition to a 12-foot-long island, integrated high-end appliances, and beautiful Italian Kitchen cabinets. The home also comes stocked with all the necessary household essentials such as olive oil and toilet paper.

Members at Common Melrose can enjoy views of the Hollywood Sign and downtown right on their rooftop deck, or spend time outdoors in their spacious patio with its Mediterranean landscaping and rain garden. After exploring the city, members can come home to their own fully furnished, private bedroom with a floor-to-ceiling built-in closet and private balcony.

Environmentally Friendly

Common Melrose even boasts several environmentally conscious design decisions. From smart heating and cooling systems to water-efficient landscaping and low-flow plumbing fixtures, the home saves electricity, water and energy at every opportunity.

Affordable

By fully furnishing each unit and including all basic services (utilities, WiFi, cable, cleaning services, and more), Common Melrose makes luxury living in LA possible, starting at $1550.

Each bedroom is designed with a similar blueprint, making the home easier to share equally. Ultimately, the nature and characteristics of the building provide access to a luxurious, custom-built, and affordable home in a neighborhood that would otherwise be out of reach.
