Somi Somi: Who doesn’t love soft serve in a fish-shaped bun? This dessert shop replaces sugar cones with a chewy pastry (Boong Uh Bbang) filled with your choice of Nutella, custard, red bean, and taro. Soft serve flavors vary among milk, matcha, black sesame, and others — you can get a mixture swirl too!

Afters Ice Cream: Don’t miss out on the Milky Buns, warm glazed donut ice cream sandwiches. The most popular ice cream flavors are hands-down the Instagram-worthy Jasmine Milk Tea (purple) and Cookie Monster (blue with cookie chunks), but you can’t go wrong with Peanut Butter S’mores and the Triple C (chocolate, caramel, and chocolate fudge). You won’t stop thinking about these ice cream sandwiches once you try them.

Salt & Straw: If you’re looking for a classic scoop of ice cream, then stop by Salt & Straw. Expect to see some unique flavors: Avocado & Oaxacan Chocolate Fudge, Roasted Strawberry Coconut, Honey Lavender, Black Olive Brittle & Goat Cheese. They make fresh vanilla waffle cones to go along with your scoop, so ask for plenty of samples before making your decision.

Lady M Cake Boutique: Lady M Cake Boutique is known for their Mille crêpes cakes, the matcha one in particular. Made of 20 paper-thin layers of crêpes and cream, this cake is as delicate as delicious. The sweetness of the vanilla cream balances out with the lightness of the green tea, making it the perfect cake to taste after a big meal.

Sweet Lady Jane: This all-in-one dessert stop has got tarts, pies, bread, cookies, and most famously, cakes. The triple berry layer cake is well-known among locals. It’s a fluffy yellow butter cake with three layers of lightly sweetened whipped cream and fresh berries. You can get them custom decorated for a special event, but you can also just enjoy a hefty slice.

Boba

Boba Guys: Who says drinks can’t be desserts? This bubble tea shop claims to be “serving the highest quality bubble tea in the world.” By brewing tea leaves and using local, organic milk, and natural brown sugar-based housemade syrups, the Boba Guys have some outstanding bubble tea, with seasonal and specialty menus.

Urth Cafe: Not only is Urth Cafe one of the most “LA” restaurants to eat at, but it’s also one of the best places you for desserts. This restaurant/coffee shop serves delicious food, like a smoked salmon pizza, on top of a wide variety of desserts and drinks. Their green tea boba — blended or shaken — might even challenge Boba Guys’.

Pastry desserts

Porto’s Bakery: You have to try this Cuban delicacy at least once. Lines go out the door on weekends, and people regularly wait hours just to get their hands on a box of Porto’s creamy, flaky cheese rolls. Trust us, though, this fleshly baked pastry is well worth the wait.

85°C Bakery and Cafe: This is bread heaven. A Taiwanese franchise, 85°C Bakery and Cafe offers freshly baked bread and pastries, along with high-quality coffee, bubble tea, and cakes — all for affordable prices. They’ve got numerous locations, so it won’t be too hard to taste their savory egg tarts and the soft, buttery brioche bread.

Other desserts

California Donuts: You’ve probably seen these trendy donuts on Instagram before. California Donuts specializes in colorful, decorative donuts, ranging from a Panda Oreo Donut and the Maple Bacon Donut. Make sure to snap a shot of your dozen before accidentally eating the whole box of these fluffy, creamy treats.

Sprinkles Cupcakes: Can’t handle a full cake? Sprinkles has got you covered with its rich cupcakes. Choose from the colorful menu — red velvet, classic vanilla, banana peanut butter — or go wild with their Sprinkles sundae (an ice cream cupcake sandwich). The best part is, you don’t even have to wait in a line. Use the Cupcake ATM!
