Daily habits to improve your life in the city

Spring is here, which means it’s time to revamp your regular ways and improve the general quality of your life.
Living in urban areas might not seem conducive for healthy habits, but you’d be surprised by how many small ways you can affect how you feel on a daily basis.

Avoid traffic, walk or ride a bike

Urban life involves a lot of time being indoors — in the office, on public transportation, and at home — but it doesn’t have to be. Walking or riding a bike as your commute can help you avoid the traffic (and rush hour) as well as improve the quality of your health. If that’s too big of a step, then start by getting off one stop early on the subway and walk home.

Make your bed

One of the smallest ways you can change your mood in the mornings is by making your bed. You’re probably always in a rush (or too lazy) in the morning to get on with your busy urban life, but taking an extra five minutes to make your bed can do wonders. Data shows that residents who make their bed in the morning feel more accomplished, encouraged, and happier throughout the day.

Visit a public park

Get outside more. Urban areas are usually full of public parks and local community centers. It’s one of the easiest ways to meet other residents in the surrounding areas and uplift your mood with greenery and fresh air.

Say hello to your neighbors

Anyone will tell you that one of the toughest parts about urban life is the feeling of loneliness. Data shows that having a friendly local community and knowing your apartment residents can diminish the frequency of such feelings. Patronize local businesses around your home and make friendly conversation with your neighbors. It’ll be good for both your body and mind.

…or just move into Common

Improve the quality of your urban life by moving into Common. Not only can you find zen in your own private bedroom, but you can also enjoy free Wifi, free laundry, and free weekly cleanings — complete stress-free living.

Residents at Common are called “members” because we emphasize community and promote a “know thy neighbor” ethos. Members get exclusive discounts at national brands and the opportunity to meet each other at free events around the city. Become a member today.
