Located just across the river from Lower Manhattan, Jersey City has become a go-to location for young professionals working in New York City who don’t want to pay NYC prices for rent. With vibrant neighborhoods, plenty of green space, and an easy commute into Midtown, Jersey City is certainly popular – but the sky high prices of Manhattan apartments are starting to make their way across the Hudson, too. The average apartment in Jersey City costs $2,701/month, considerably less than the average Manhattan apartment ($3,653/month) but still out of reach for middle-income renters. Enter: Nest by Common.
Developed by KSNY and Strategic Properties, and designed by GRO Architects, by Common consists of 122 micro-units alongside convenient and enjoyable amenities. And using innovative design – from convertible furniture to energy saving appliances – rent is able to be as low as $1,227/month, less than 50% of the average nearby apartment. Keep reading for an inside look at the apartments and amenities at The Nest by Common.
Despite the “micro” size, Nest by Common’s innovative approach to design creates enough space for relaxing, entertaining, and working comfortably.
The suite is fully-furnished with Italian designed, engineered, and manufactured furniture, including a comfortable couch that transforms into a Queen size Murphy bed. The coffee table easily converts into a dining table, and fits under the bed seamlessly, while custom made built-in cabinets and shelves make storage easy. The fridge enclosure also contains a fold down desk for convenient remote work.
And despite the small size, there’s still plenty of room for entertaining or lounging solo. Sip coffee on your cozy designed window seat (big enough for two!) or invite a friend over for dinner and a movie — all apartments are cable-ready with wall blocking for hanging flat screen TVs, and your dining table easily converts into a coffee table when you’re done eating.
First-class finishes, appliances, and technology
Apartments at Nest by Common are outfitted with the latest in appliances and technology, including a 25” wide and 11 cubic foot Whirlpool refrigerator and an energy efficient two burner induction range.
Using electromagnetic heat, the range cooks more evenly and in half the time and energy of conventional ranges, perfect for the environmentally conscious and on-the-go renter. The stovetop’s technology also creates less heat than a traditional stovetop — a true sweat-saver in a small space. But for extra steamy days, you can just turn on your Daikin mini-split HVAC system, which quietly and efficiently cools or heats your space.
Your new apartment is designed for both style and function, with beautiful finishes, including showers with ceramic subway tiles, slate flooring, and tempered glass doors. The butcher block countertops are durable and pair well with a custom made stainless steel backsplash.

Beyond your apartment
By maximizing the space in your micro-unit, GRO Architects were able to conserve more space for additional amenities that foster community and simplify your lifestyle. Say goodbye to the days of doing Youtube yoga videos next to your couch and instead take advantage of The Nest by Common’s gym, which includes 2 Peletons, 4 Nordic Track treadmills with studio workouts, weights, and yoga mats.
For a large group gathering, head to the lounge, where you’ll find a pool table, ping pong, a big screen TV, and bean bags. And for sunny days, Nest by Common’s rooftop is your new favorite hangout. Meet up with other members at the outdoor living rooms, lounge in the sun with your favorite book, or fire up the BBQ and enjoy a summer night at the picnic tables.
