West Seventh, an up-and-coming neighborhood in St. Paul, Minnesota, is known for its popular dining hub, craft breweries, historic architecture, and adorable antique shops. And in November, it will also be the home to ALVERA by Common, our first home in The North Star State. With studios or 1-and 2-bedroom apartments in the heart of St. Paul, this home offers renters access to incredible amenities and the best of West Seventh.

With a rich history, trendy places to shop and admire art, and some seriously good places to get food, West Seventh might just be the perfect place to live.

Liveability

When choosing a place to move to it’s important to keep the area’s livability in mind. West Seventh is also one of the best places to live in Minnesota because of how walkable the area is, the amazing restaurants and shops, and the community. The neighborhood has beautiful residential areas, wide sidewalks, a tight-knit community, and is close to the downtown area.

Besides being a great neighborhood to live in, West Seventh is also the perfect place to start or grow your business. Residents and business owners have been repurposing and restoring the neighborhood’s warehouses and historic buildings to make them into new, locally owned stores.

Friendly atmosphere

According to local reviews on Niche.com, residents who live in West Seventh have noted that there is a sense of community, they feel safe, and that there is a warmth to the neighborhood (despite the cold winters). Having nice neighbors is important but community extends beyond your apartment building. In this vibrant neighborhood, there are so many places and ways to meet new people that could live just down the block. West Seventh Community Center has a list of community events, like food distributions and drives, where you can meet and get to know others living in the neighborhood while volunteering. Who knows, they might become a lifelong friend!

The food scene

West Seventh has some of the best restaurants and bars, and the selection happens to be huge. The friendly atmosphere and variety of options make this neighborhood a huge foodie scene that is always growing.

For the perfect breakfast, latte, and Instagram picture, head to Cafe Astoria. This locally-owned trendy cafe and creperie has specialty coffees, delicious food, and a great staff. Some of our favorites include the crème brûlée coffee, apple caramel crêpe, and the peachy keen oatmeal bowl. They also have a large list of wraps, sandwiches, and salads if you’re looking for something more savory. Seventh Street Truck Park is exactly what it sounds like — an indoor park filled with tons of different food trucks. Pick from tacos, pizza, ribs, or sandwiches, and don’t forget a refreshing kool-aid cocktail or cold beer to go with it. Named the “best new food hall in America” by USA Today, Keg and Case Market, is another great spot to grab a bite to eat. Located in a brewery from 1855, this market filled with different vendors and craft beers is ideal for the nights where everyone wants something different.

Always something to do

In between trying new cafes for breakfast and restaurants for dinner, there’s a lot of time to check out the attractions located in West Seventh. One of the reasons we love this neighborhood is because of the variety of places to spend time. Outdoor parks, museums, galleries, and antique stores make West Seventh a great neighborhood to call home.

Upper Landing Park is a beautiful outdoor area where you can spend an afternoon, have a picnic, or just take in the views of the Mississippi River. Take your dog, take your friends, or just hang by yourself — no matter who you’re there with, you’ll definitely enjoy it. Center For Lost Objects is an antique shop that has antiques, vintage, gifts, and work from over 15 local artists. What makes this place even better is that you can spend time with Clover and Violet, the store’s dog and cat, while shopping and looking at the art.
