An inside look at Common McCormick

TwitterPinterestFacebook

In 2015, the team at Common opened our first coliving home in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Today, we’ve expanded to over 7,000 units in 15 cities on our mission to make city living easier for renters. While New York and Los Angeles are our largest markets, Chicago holds a special place in our heart for its historic architecture, unique neighborhoods, and, of course, its incredible culinary scene. Already home to hundreds of Common members, Chicago is also the site of our brand new coliving home: Common McCormick.

Located in the South Loop, Common McCormick offers Chicago renters their own private corner in one of the country’s greatest cities. Let’s take a look inside.

All-inclusive suites

Thoughtful design and all-inclusive living is a standard across all of Common’s coliving homes, and Common McCormick is no exception. In putting together the home’s apartments, we’ve given renters everything they need with space for what they love.

On first glance, you’ll find a fully-furnished shared suite, complete with a kitchen, living, and dining area. But before you move on to the private bedrooms, take a closer look. The kitchen cabinets are stocked with household essentials: paper towels, dishwashing soap, trash bags, and whatever else renters need to move about their days with ease.

We also provide each suite with a complete set of appliances and kitchenware. Not only do these included supplies save our members time and money, but they also might save their relationship with their roommates. Imagine: no more passive-aggressive Venmo requests for toilet paper or being left without a toaster when a roommate decides the West Coast is calling their name. Ahh, what a life!

Let’s move on to the big stuff. While a toaster might put you out $20, a comfy sofa might leave you on a payment plan for longer than your lease. Our in-house team of interior designers selects the highest quality furniture from the best brands, including Floyd, Article, and BluDot. Members can spend those extra savings on stylish throw pillows, art, or whatever else makes the space feel like home.

As much as our members might get along, we all need our space from time to time. At Common McCormick, members can retreat to their own private bedroom, complete with a bed frame, mattress, side table, lamp, and clothes storage. And if the idea of sharing a bathroom brings some people back to their “prefer to be forgotten” college days, there’s also the option for an ensuite room.

Amenities for everyday

At Common McCormick, your apartment doesn’t end at your front door. Our new home also offers access to beautiful amenities, designed for both convenience and enjoyment. With the rise of remote work, our team has made it imperative to create spaces that can be used throughout the day for a variety of functional and fun purposes.

On the first floor of the home you’ll find a sun soaked shared lounge with floor to ceiling windows, a large comfy couch, and cafe tables for remote work or morning coffee. Invite friends over for a cooking night in the chef’s kitchen, or gather with new roommates for a game night.

Down the hall, check out the home’s fitness center — a lifesaver for expensive gym fees and cold Chicago winters.

In this writer’s opinion, the best amenity can be found a few floors up on Common McCormick’s spacious rooftop deck. With horizon views, cozy couches, lounge chairs, and an oversized dining table, it’s the perfect place for soaking up the sun with a good book, or enjoying an end of the day beer.

(P.S. For members daydreaming of hosting an epic end-of-summer soiree, Common can even help with the funds through our co-created events program.)

Easy access to the best of city living

Location, location, location. It’s a cliché, but when it comes to real estate it really does matter. Common McCormick is located in Chicago’s South Loop, between Lake Michigan and Chinatown, and only minutes away from breweries, coffee shops, and Chicago’s Lakefront Trail. Take a short walk to East Cermak Road for delicious hot pot, Italian, and American cuisine, or try a little bit of everything at the nearby Showroom Food Hall. For a full night of all-things-fun, check out Lips Drag Queen Show Palace, Restaurant & Bar. Do we need to say more?

Of course the best part of city living is being able to leave your neighborhood and discover the wide variety of cultures at your fingertips. Common McCormick is easily accessible by the Green Line, which takes you to the Clark/Lake stop in under 20 minutes. From there, members can explore downtown Chicago or hop on any other line to start their next adventure.
