A booming entertainment district
Uptown continues to thrive as the “Loops little brother” (as it did in the ‘20s and ‘30s), with a thriving jazz scene and a treasure trove of eateries. One of the best places to see a concert in the city is just 15 minutes from Common Simonds; the stunning Riviera Theater has hosted acts such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lenny Kravitz, and Ramones. See Al Capone’s booth at the historic Green Mill Cocktail Lounge, or the grave of Kate Warne, the first female detective, at Graceland Cemetery.
Feed your hunger at nearby Argyle Street with Peking duck, sushi, traditional dim sum, banh mi, or pho. Need a break from the city? Walk over to Lake Michigan, or enjoy the Montrose Dog Beach, just 20 minutes away.
Easily connected
With easy access to beaches and plenty of public transportation, Uptown has always been a desirable destination. The most recent infrastructure investment, costing $203 million, restored the Wilson L stop — a 10-minute walk away from Common Simonds — with new escalators, bigger platforms, and extra turnstiles. The Red Line from there takes you to 95th/Dan Ryan or Howard, and the Purple Line takes you to Linden or Chicago’s Loop in less than 30 minutes.
