How to spend your first day at Common Elmwood in Los Angeles

Welcome to Los Angeles! Whether you hopped off the plane at LAX with a dream and a cardigan, or have been a Los Angeles resident long enough to not be impressed by the casual celeb sighting, your list of things to explore and discover in this expansive city is probably long (and exciting!) But as any busy city dweller knows, it can be tough to find the balance between the things that matter, like meeting new people, exploring your neighborhood, or growing your career, and less on the things that don’t, like shopping for toilet paper and dividing the utilities bill with your roommates.

At Common, we design and operate our coliving homes with balance in mind. As a member, you get the privacy of your own bedroom and the community of a shared suite and awesome amenity spaces. You’ll get beautiful furniture and fully-stocked household essentials, without the wasted Saturday at IKEA. The best part: your rent includes all of this from Day 1.

Save on a U-Haul and stress

From packing to paying for movers to sleeping on a mattress on the floor before your bed frame arrives, the entire process of moving is usually time consuming, costly, and uncomfortable. Moving to a new home should be exciting though, and your first day at Common Elmwood will feel more like a celebration than an endless to-do list.

As a member in one of Common Elmwood’s coliving suites, you’ll get a furnished bedroom in a fully-furnished shared suite. That includes everything from a bed-frame to a mattress, to a comfy couch and dining area. Along with furniture, your cabinets are fully-stocked with plates, utensils, cookware, and household cleaning supplies. Between everything that comes included at Common Elmwood, you could move with as little as a suitcase, and be settled in your new home in the time it takes to hang up your clothes and make your bed.

Explore the local scene

With the whole day ahead of you, there’s so much to explore and discover just a quick drive or walk away from Common Elmwood. Larchmont Village is a historic Los Angeles neighborhood, with palm-tree lined streets and stunning architecture. The heart of this neighborhood is North Larchmont Boulevard, a vibrant strip with everything from the city’s oldest independent bookshop to delicious poke, well-brewed coffee, and some of the city’s (and country’s) most interesting ice cream flavors. We recommend treating yourself to a vegan pastry from Erin Mckenna’s Bakery, or getting a delicious sandwich and bottle of wine to enjoy later at Larchmont Village Wine, Spirits & Cheese.

Unwind with views the Hollywood sign

Back at home, you’ll find plenty of space to unwind. Head up to the rooftop deck for sunset views of the Hollywood sign, or get into your flow at the home’s meditation and yoga room. If you don’t have the luxury of taking a full day off to move, Common Elmwood also offers a community lounge and coworking space, perfect for getting stuff done.

If you’re feeling social, introduce yourself to your new neighbors on Common’s Connect by app. You can also use the app to explore virtual events happening that night, week, or month, from paint nights to wine tastings. It’s free to RSVP and it’s a great way to meet new people.
