How to spend a summer day in Marina del Rey

TwitterPinterestFacebook

Marina del Rey, L.A’s crown jewel, transforms into a full-blown beachside paradise in the summer months. Offering Angelenos refuge from the sometimes manic pace of the city, Marina del Rey is overflowing with ways to relax by the water. With so much to do in Los Angeles’ hidden gem, deciding how to spend a day can be tricky. For those who need some structure, here’s how to spend a perfect summer day in Marina del Rey.

Rise and shine

Though summer days may feel like they just might last forever, it’s best to get a jump start on the day to see all there is in Marina del Rey. Wake up with coffee from Ten. Purists will enjoy Ten’s Mexican ice brew, but those with an early-morning sweet tooth should try the slightly-spiced Spanish Latte. Grab a pastry or a tart for the road and head to Burton Chace Park, Marina del Rey’s largest, and enjoy the contrast of your cold drink to the warm summer sun. Maybe even see some sea lions (or seals, we can never keep them straight) while you’re at it!

Once you’re caffeinated…

Between catching some rays and sipping some coffee you should be charged up and ready to take on Fisherman’s Village. Inspired by a coastal New England town, the Village’s brightly-colored buildings and retro architecture transport visitors back in time. Whether you’re into sightseeing, shopping, or observing some of the local wildlife, strolling around the Fisherman’s Village is a great way to spend a Marina del Rey afternoon. Summers at the Village are particularly special, as live music and other weekend events kick off during the summer months.

Stay in or head out

As the sun sets on the perfect summer day (and your stomach starts to rumble) it’s time to check out Marina del Rey’s impressive culinary scene. Waterside spots like Sugarfish and SALT are favorites among locals and visitors alike. Should you feel like staying in, however, a home-cooked meal atop Common’s fully-furnished rooftop offers views you won’t find at any restaurant. With Ralph’s just around the corner, you can stock up on ingredients — and maybe grab a bottle of rosé — on the way home.

The night has just begun

Being back at home doesn’t mean the perfect day is over! With Common’s countless community events and shared spaces, longer days give members more time to meet other Common residents and make memories and friendships that will last long after the summer is over. Whether hanging out in the lounge, shooting some pool, or taking a dip in one, there’s no shortage of fun to be had in Los Angeles.
