How to spend your first day at Common McCormick

TwitterPinterestFacebook

Welcome to Common McCormick, our first home in the South Loop and the city’s most exciting new coliving building! Beyond its beautiful interiors and killer city views, Common McCormick is not your average rental. As a coliving home, Common McCormick offers renters private bedrooms in fully-furnished shared suites that make moving and settling in a breeze. And as members at a Common home, residents have access to a wide array of perks that are exclusive to living at Common, like community events and discounts to local and national brands.

One of our favorite parts about Common McCormick though is how easy it is to feel at home from Day 1. Here’s how to spend your first day at our South Loop home — from getting settled to exploring your new neighborhood.

Moving in

When you first arrive at Common McCormick, you’ll use the Latch app to access the building and your apartment. You’ll receive instructions before move-in day on exactly how to do this, and once you’re in, you’ll have access to the home, your suite, and the building’s amenities.

Unlike other moving experiences, your move-in day won’t involve a ton of heavy lifting — we’ve done most of that for you! Coliving suites at Common McCormick come with everything from a cozy Floyd couch to pots, pans, and utensils. We even provide hangers in your closet or wardrobe! So skip the UHaul and grab a suitcase instead. All you’ll need is bedding, personal toiletries, linens, and anything else that makes your home feel like your own.

Exploring the area

Once you’ve unpacked, taken a look around your apartment, and maybe even met a suitemate or two, it’s time to explore your new neighborhood. If you’re local to the area, you’ve probably already got a few favorite spots in mind, but if you’re looking for an introduction to your new home base, we have a few ideas.

Common McCormick is located within walking distance of two amazing breweries: Moody Tongue Brewing Company and Duneyrr Fermenta Brewery. Moody Tongue is not your average brewery — not only do they have an upscale restaurant with menu items like Harissa Spiced Octopus and an artisan cheese board, but they also boast 2 Michelin stars. Try one of their unique brews like a juiced lychee IPA or sample the best Moody Tongue has to offer with a flight of their seasonal beers. Down the street at Duneyrr Fermenta, you’ll find wines, ciders, and ales that are co-fermented with other fruits — creating drinks that defy any one category.

For a bite to eat, head north to East Cermak Road, where you’ll find a wide array of restaurants and bars. Bureau and Bar offers classic comfort food like loaded nachos and burgers alongside elevated and inventive classics like pan seared salmon and chicken and waffles tacos. Up a few blocks you’ll find La Cantina, a local favorite for delicious margaritas, tacos, and other Mexican classics. And of course, we can’t forget about Chinatown. Only a fifteen minute walk from Common McCormick, Chinatown is home to both sit down restaurants like MingHin Cuisine and the Chinatown Foodcourt for a grab and go meal.

If you’re looking to save money, not spend it, you probably want to stock your fridge with groceries to prepare. The kitchens at Common McCormick have everything you need when it comes to kitchen supplies, so you can focus on finding delicious ingredients. Head a few blocks north to South Loop Market, where you’ll find all your cooking staples, or check out many of the local Chinese groceries for pan-Asian cooking items.

If you’re itching to explore the rest of the city, your new home is also located a short walk away from public transportation and the Lakefront Trail

Connecting with new neighbors

Back at home, take a moment to kick back and explore the Connect by Common app. Here, you can introduce yourself to your new neighbors, explore and RSVP to events, and get in contact with our member support team. You might also meet your neighbors IRL in one of the home’s many amenity spaces. Join a game night in the shared lounge, or take in the views of the city from the furnished rooftop deck.

However you choose to spend your first day at Common McCormick, we can guarantee it will be your easiest move yet. Visit our website to learn more about the home, and follow us on Instagram to stay up to date on the latest city living and renting tips from Common.
