How Common’s talent acquisition specialist landed her career

TwitterPinterestFacebook

When starting a new role, most people imagine an upward trajectory. From junior to senior management, from director to vice president, climbing the corporate ladder on the same team or in the same role is pretty standard for most work environments. At Common, we approach growth from all directions, allowing our team to explore new roles and interests within the company. We caught up with Kristen Gonzalez, a talent acquisition specialist at Common, about her path to success.

What’s your favorite part about working at Common?

My favorite part about working at Common is the transparency and the growth! You’re not just an employee in a huge organization. The team always makes me feel involved. As for the growth, it’s insane to see the business grow so quickly right before my eyes.

What’s one surprising thing you’ve learned in your current role?

Being able to speak to someone and seeing if they align with our Common values within a 20 minute conversation.

What was your first week at Common like?

My first week at Common was great! There was a lot to learn but my team made sure I was set up for success with training in place and open arms.

How has your role changed since you started?

I started off as an Office Coordinator in our NYC HQ. Then switched over to the Talent team as a Recruiting Coordinator. I learned the basics of the recruiting world. Then transitioned into a Talent Acquisition Specialist role. Every day I learn something new I can apply to my workflow that contributes to my individual success and the success of Common at large.

Favorite hobby?

Candle making! I picked it up during quarantine and have been trying to master it since then. It smells good and teaches me patience.

Which city are you based in and what do you love about it?

I’m based out of Brooklyn and what I love most about it are the bars and coffee shops on every corner. I also love the culture. It’s like bohemian vibes with a bunch of murals but also still residential.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a news anchor but that requires studying journalism and I’m not interested in that.

Your favorite team outing/bonding activity?

When the team and I had an “Airbnb Online Experience” making pasta from scratch with a Grandma that called in all the way from Italy while enjoying fine wine.

Favorite place?

My favorite place as of right now would have to be Mexico. Authentic tacos and unlimited margaritas with Tajin.

Favorite Common home and why?

My favorite Common home would have to be Common Hamilton in Harlem, I love the exposed brick and fireplace and it’s close to the train!
